Camboida: A Food Journey though its cities
Hi there! My name is Lisa, and I am a food lover who recently visited Cambodia.
Cambodia is a country with a rich cultural heritage, and its cuisine is a testament to that. During my trip, I discovered some of the best restaurants in Cambodia and tried some of the most delicious food I have ever tasted. In this food blog, I would like to share my experience with you and take you on a journey of flavors and tastes.
Mahob Khmer Cuisine
My first stop was Mahob Khmer Cuisine, a fine-dining restaurant located in the heart of Phnom Penh. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with traditional Khmer art and artifacts, and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The menu at Mahob Khmer Cuisine features traditional Khmer dishes made with the freshest ingredients.
I started with the Cambodian Spring Rolls, which were filled with fresh vegetables and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. For my main course, I ordered the Amok, which is a traditional Khmer dish made with fish, coconut milk, and curry paste. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the flavors of the curry paste and coconut milk were balanced perfectly. The dish was served with fragrant rice, which complemented the flavors of the Amok.
Romdeng
My next stop was Romdeng, a restaurant located in a restored colonial villa in Phnom Penh. The restaurant is run by Friends International, a non-profit organization that works with marginalized youth in Cambodia. Romdeng is committed to social responsibility, and the menu features traditional Khmer dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
I started with the Green Mango Salad, which was refreshing and tangy. For my main course, I ordered the Cambodian BBQ, which was a platter of meats and vegetables that were grilled at my table. The platter included pork, beef, chicken, and shrimp, as well as fresh vegetables and dipping sauces. The meats were perfectly cooked, and the dipping sauces were flavorful and complemented the flavors of the meats and vegetables.
Cuisine Wat Damnak
My final stop was Cuisine Wat Damnak, a restaurant located in Siem Reap. The restaurant is known for its innovative Khmer cuisine, and the menu features dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
I started with the Grilled Eggplant Salad, which was topped with herbs and peanuts and had a smoky flavor. For my main course, I ordered the Beef Cheek, which was slow-cooked and served with a rich sauce and vegetables. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the sauce was rich and complemented the flavors of the meat.
The Sugar Palm
The Sugar Palm is a restaurant located in Siem Reap, a city known for its proximity to the world-renowned Angkor Wat temple complex. The restaurant is a popular spot for both tourists and locals, and for good reason. The menu features traditional Khmer dishes, as well as a few Thai and Vietnamese options.
One of the standout dishes at The Sugar Palm is the Fish Amok, which is a classic Khmer dish that consists of fish cooked in coconut milk and spices, then steamed in a banana leaf. The result is a creamy, aromatic dish that is both flavorful and comforting. Another must-try dish at The Sugar Palm is the Beef Lok Lak, which is a stir-fried beef dish served with a tangy dipping sauce and fresh vegetables.
Overall, my trip to Cambodia was a culinary adventure, and I discovered some of the best restaurants and dishes I have ever tasted. The food in Cambodia is a fusion of traditional Khmer dishes and the influences of neighboring countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and China. The cuisine is fresh, flavorful, and unique, and I would highly recommend a trip to Cambodia to experience it for yourself.
Until next time happy eating......
